First results of the XXVIII Campaign

Tu 07/4/2017

This year's excavation campaign is already underway and with very encouraging results, despite the high temperatures reached during most of June, which have considerably delayed its development. Until now, in the first sector we have discovered three new tombs (303, 304 and 305), some with rich grave goods. In addition, we have good indications that shows the existence of at least three other funerary deposits.

In secondary positions we have found hundreds of ceramic fragments as well as various metallic objects (fibulas, needles and fragments of grills, scissors and harnesses). Also, we have unearthed eight stelae that have already been removed to work on the lower levels of the terrace. As on other occasions, all the excavation area is greatly altered by the action of the plow, which will not prevent Las Ruedas from finally showing us, once again, some of its most intimate secrets.

Despite the decline of foreign students enrolled in our summer courses, we have representatives from several universities of the United States and Australia, as well as archaeologists and students from the universities of Granada, Balearic Islands and Salamanca.

Next we leave some pictures of the excavation area and the objects found, as well as some cultural activities developed with the students.

This year, more than ever, we need the support of all the volunteers and friends for the development of the excavations, so you know: See you in Pintia!
