First results of the XXIX Campaign

Su 06/17/2018

Tomorrow begins the XXIX Excavation Campaign with the first of the International Courses, but we already have the initial results, obtained during the preparation of the first sector which will intervene this year (F1i9), thanks to the excavation team of the CEVFW and the Pintia Cultural Association. On this occasion, the sector is located between two other excavated during 2013 and 2016, next to the paleocauce of the Vega stream and, although these are areas that have been greatly altered by the passage of time and the use of the modern plow, the large number of stelae that have appeared augurs good archaeological days and we hope pleasant surprises.

We believe that the area that will be intervened this year is configured as a transitional space between two areas of the necropolis used during II and I centuries BC, since in the adjacent sector excavated during 2013 (F1j9) seven tombs were found (some of them intact), while in the immediate excavated in 2016 (F1h9) there were only five, poorly preserved and with few grave goods. In any case, we hope to test this hypothesis in the course of this campaign.

As you can see in the photographs, the first findings of various types of ceramics, human and faunal bones remains and different metals, as well as the density of partially unearthed-stelae, presage us a fruitful campaign in Las Ruedas.

The first results are already in our workshops

Fragments of a small box and a small boat and abundant decoration painted in orange pottery

View of the sector located between the excavated in 2013 and 2016 with many stelae, which suggest good results
