Second week of campaign

Mo 07/22/2019

The second week of the XXXVIII International Course has concluded with a lot of work and a few unimportant findings. On one hand, the three sectors in which we will work during this campaign are already fully delimited and in most of them terrace level have been reached, although only two very disturbed graves have been found. However, there is still the work of digging a few holes that have already been profiled and extracting the few stelae that have appeared, so it is possible that in some of them and under the others we have some pleasant surprise hidden. On the other hand, the great quantity of metallic remains of good quality and cremated human bones indicate that we are facing an ancient area of the necropolis (III-IV centuries B. C.) which has been greatly affected by the continuous work of the plow and the pillagers, a very destructive combination of elements for archaeological levels.
On July 16th we spent the day at La Granja de San Ildefonso and Segovia, visiting the main monuments of the Castilian city and returning to the "civilization" for a few hours.

In addition, between July 19th and 21st a new edition of the Family Archeology Program was held. This time we have the Álvarez-Wallerstein family (Daniel, Clair, Inés and Noah), from Cornwall County (United Kingdom), who could enjoy a very complete day discovering the treasures of the Vaccean culture. After knowing the Pintia Archaeological Site, they excavated a replica of a Vaccean tomb and quickly integrated into the group of students and archaeologists to implement the methodology learned. On Sunday the program was closed with the pottery workshop in which they showed us their skills as ceramists.

We will continue to report the Campaign news from this section.
